I started doing competitive debate during my first year of university in 2011. Since then, I have probably participated in around 500 debates, mainly in the so-called British Parliamentary Style. In a nutshell, you and a team partner have fifteen minutes to prepare two 7-minute speeches, defending a position you didn’t choose on a topic you didn’t know in advance. In 2018, I became the German champion after winning the final debate on the question of whether we ought to prefer a world without any organized religions. At the World and European Championships, I reached the quarterfinals.
